Real-time grid based brick placement in UEFN
01 Block Placement System
A custom Verse-based building system for placing LEGO bricks on a 3D grid,
with real-time placement validation, rotation, and multi-layer building.
with real-time placement validation, rotation, and multi-layer building.
1) Grid-Based Placement
Player aim is projected onto the active build plane and converted into
discrete LEGO grid coordinates, keeping bricks consistently aligned as the player builds.

2) Placement Validation
Each candidate position is validated against
existing LEGO bricks and supported platform surfaces before placement is allowed.

3) Rotation & Brick Dimensions
Rotating a brick updates both its orientation and grid footprint,
allowing different brick shapes to remain correctly aligned to the placement grid.

02 Upcoming Block Preview
Displays the next randomized LEGO brick in the HUD,
allowing players to plan their next placement before committing to the current brick.

The preview updates automatically as the brick queue advances.
Dynamic UI Update
The UI reads the upcoming brick type
from the placement system and maps it to the corresponding UI texture,
keeping the preview synchronized with the gameplay queue.

03 Block Stacking
The stacking system detects existing LEGO bricks on the grid
and automatically shifts the build layer above the targeted brick, validating support before placement.

Targeting an existing brick automatically moves the placement preview to the layer above.
GRID-BASED BRICK DETECTION
Placed bricks are tracked as occupied cells,
allowing the system to detect which brick the player is targeting
along their view direction.
